What you will learn in this course:

Verdi called the decade of the 1840s "My years in the Galleys". He saw himself as a slave to impresarios, composing two or three new operas each year. He produced sixteen operas over the decade, mostly conforming to the conventions of the "Rossini Code".

These are some of the most dramatic - and least known - of the great Master's creations. We will examine each in turn, noting his development as a composer and dramatist as the decade progresses.
