What you will learn in this course:
Western literature begins with the stories of the Trojan War. Homer's "Iliad" and "Odyssey" - and their inspiration of the later Roman epic, "the Aeneid" - have fascinated and intrigued opera composers over the last 400 years.
In this course, we will revisit the ancient and modern literature around this conflict - and the wide variety of operatic treatments of these events.
