What you will learn in this course:

Many people come to Opera late in life – when they have developed a mature awareness of literature, music and the arts. But many do not have a fundamental grasp of what to listen for in different forms of Opera.

This course is designed to provide a fundamental framework for appreciation.

We will learn the importance of roles and “fachs”. We will follow the development of the “aria” as it changed shape over the 400 years of Opera’s evolution. You will learn how to listen to different forms of opera – and to understand why they differ.

For people who are not sure if they will even like Opera!
