What you will learn in this course:

The Venetian Republic, la Serenissima, is one of the most unique civilizations on the planet. It had an independent government for 1,000 years. It ruled an empire. It had a fascinating form of government. In every way, Venice has proved intriguing for lovers of art, culture, history, economics, political science, religion, and innovation.

I will be joined for this course by two master-teachers, both of whom are also renowned experts on Venice:

BONNIE SHETTLER will cover the historical development of the city, focussing on its unique societal and imperial characteristics.

MARY REDEKOP will explain what to look for in Venetian art and architecture.
