Learn about the rich repertoire of the ‘Verismo’ group of composers and the demonstrative vocal style that their ‘realistic’ operas demanded of singers.

 

Theirs was the final flowering of Italian opera - in the 1890s and the years leading up to the First World War.

 

Then, after Puccini's grandiose "Turandot", the spark seemed to go out.
